1.  You're the boss.

TT#1: 13 Ways To Blow A Job Interview

Welcome, Thursday Thirteeners! I'm DK Raymer's husband (A Flyover Blog) and this is my brand new blog.  I thought you might like to read about some of my more memorable (ie. notorious, scary, just plain weird) job interview experiences.  All of these have happened to me personally over the years while I interviewed job applicants.

13 Sure-fire Ways To Blow A Job Interview

1.  A man once bragged to me about beating up his last boss.

2.  One woman told me she would not work for us because the job paid less than her last place of employment.  "Why did you leave your old job?" I asked.  She said (very seriously,) "The company went bankrupt because the payroll was too high."

3.  Do not bring friends to your interview.  Several teenagers have done this to me; the friends all talked on their cell phones during the entire (brief) interview.

4.  Never apply for a job with a company you stole money from.  One man applied for a job with us 2 weeks after he was fired from one of our stores for stealing money from the register.

5.  One young man arrived for an Assistant Store Manager's interview dressed in dirty ripped jeans, a t-shirt that sported an obscenity, a pack of cigarettes rolled up in one sleeve, barefoot, and carrying a skateboard that he told my Secretary was worth $200.  He was perplexed when I didn't give him the job.

6.  I was interviewing people for a phone receptionist position one day.  A woman came in - with an Interpreter.  She could not speak English.

7.  One man went through the entire interview, then told me he really didn't want a job - he just wanted to see if someone would hire him.

8.  A woman who had been terminated from our accounting department came to see me several months later.  She wanted to know if she had been fired long enough to come back.

9.  A man told me that he was fired from his last job because he didn't show up for work one day.  "Why didn't you go in?" I asked.  His reply, "Because I don't like being told what to do."

10.  I have had several people show up for an interview obviously intoxicated.

11.  I was conducting interviews for warehouse personnel one day.  A man came in wearing a 3-piece suit; he had a Masters.  He had never been inside a warehouse... any warehouse.  He got angry when I told him we hired a person with actual warehouse experience.

12.  I once had an applicant tell me about the 2 ongoing lawsuits she had against former employers.

13.  On my way into work one morning, a man passed me going 20 mph over the in-town speed limit, and gave me the one finger salute.  When I pulled into my parking space a few minutes later, I noticed that same man parked several spaces away.  He got out of his car and walked towards our building.  He was my very first interview that morning... and they say there is no God.
