The Party's Over

Dog20tired

The Ultimate Blog Party 2008 is officially over! Whew - what a week it's been. I've eaten more cake and punch in the past few days than I have in years, but I met some wonderful new bloggers and ran into some old friends along the way, too. Many thanks to 5 Minutes for Mom for hosting the event. Participating Party Blogs numbered more than 1440! No way did I make it to all those parties in just one week, so I'm going to continue to click through that list probably well into summer! Just leave your porch light on for me. Now, if you'll excuse me I'm going to sweep up this confetti and take a nap.

Come On In!

Fruition162px_3Greetings, Ultimate Blog Party Guests, Faithful Flyover readers and New Visitors. Welcome to A Flyover Blog.

Big stuff going on here this week. In a few days I'll be introducing a brand new blog - a fiction blog - that you won't want to miss, so mark this page and check back here Monday.

!!!BREAKING NEWS - Monday, March 10!!!

My new fiction blog, Pages from Paddlebrook launched this morning! I think you're really gonna have fun getting to know Sammy and Sheila. Stop by and check it out!

For those of you new to A Flyover Blog, here's the skinny: I'm an author and family entertainment writer. You'll find posts about my life in the Midwest, working in the entertainment industry, and our publishing projects. (Hubby, Mitch, and I have a small publishing company, too.)

You won't find cooking tips on my blog or recipes. I don't cook and there's not a domestic bone in my body. I don't have kids either, so no mom news. You will have fun here though, of that I am certain. So take a look around, leave me a comment, send me an email... just make yourself at home. I'm glad you're here!

If you didn't participate in last year's event, I urge you to join in this year. Happy Blog Day 2007

Welcome to my blog picks for Blog Day 2007.  I was introduced to this celebration by Michelle over at White Trash Mom, so go check out her fun blog while you're blog-hopping today. (That's my bonus recommendation.) The purpose of this day is to discover blogs that are new to you, NOT your old favorites. (To see my list of favorites, check my right sidebar.) And now, here are my Blog Day picks:

Aunt Sabine of Germany is an engrossing blog written by a wise old soul in a beautiful young body. Sabine covers a wide range of topics from news of her daily life to stories of wartime Germany. It's a fascinating stop and I'm glad I found her wonderful blog.

My second stop on the tour is The Life of Riley. Olive Riley was born in 1899 in Broken Hill, Australia, and is the oldest blogger on my tour. She writes her blog with the help of her friend, Mike, and she is an absolute delight. Say "hi" when you stop by; Ollie loves company.

Somewhere in a parallel universe, there is another me that lives near the ocean in a charming cottage. That ME actually has the time to furnish said cottage with vintage treasures and THEN take pictures of them to share with the world. Since that me does not exist in THIS reality, I live vicariously through Kim at Daisy Cottage. You're gonna love this blog; it's a visual treat.

In another parallel universe I live on a ranch, kinda like Ree over at Confessions Of A Pioneer Woman. Ree writes hysterical posts about real life on a working cattle ranch and her pictures are fabulous. Her tag line is, "Plowing Through Life in the Country, One Calf Nut at a Time." Don't miss this one.

I am a writer by trade and this list would not be complete without my favorite writer's site. The Burry Man Writer's Center in Scotland has in international following and manages to encourage and promote writers of all nationalities and interests... all without ego. Hosts Joseph and Jennifer are warm, witty and gracious as ever in their brand new blog, Burry Thoughts. If you write at all, this is a Must See!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy my recommendations.

Who's Doing This?

Blog Day 2007

Blog day is this coming Friday, August 31st. I'm still looking for one more blog to round out my list. So, I'm curious, is anyone else participating in this? Or are you all heading to the lake for one last 3-day vacation before Fall?

Have You Heard About Blog Day?

Michelle over at Shallow and Tacky introduced me to Blog Day 2007. Great concept: You choose 5 blogs that interest you - 5 that are totally unique from those you regularly read - and write a short description of each. I like this idea because it makes me look "outside the box" and I love to discover new blogs! Click on the link below for details, then grab a badge and spread the word! Hurry - Blog Day is August 31.

The Party's Over

Party20pooped

It's 4:10a.m. as I write this post and the Ultimate Blog Party is officially over!  I still can't believe the number of blogs on the Party tour - like 922 when I last checked.  Okay, I made it through #174 this week. Pathetic, but true.

I've never seen so many pictures of baby bellies in all my life! I'm glad we weren't sharing pics of dimpled thighs... I might have felt compelled to join in.

Note to Susan and Janice:  PLEASE leave the list up... preferrably well into the summer, so I can make it to every stop on the tour.

To the Party Bloggers: Granted, some of you young moms may be grandmas by the time I stop by, but I'll make it eventually, so leave the porch light on.  And no fair turning the lights out and pretending you're not home.  I know you're in there!

Gotta go now. Time to sweep up this confetti before the dogs eat it.

Ultimate Blog Party - Day... I Lost Count

The Ultimate Blog Party is still chugging along and I believe it is bigger than any of us imagined.  I started with the best of intentions and even though I had a cold, I still joined in... albeit 3 days late. Many of the blogs I've visited have gone all out - posting photographs of decorations, smiling party goers, and 5 star food!  Me?  No pics.  No decorations, unless you count the boxes of Kleenex laying around the house.  And food?  Well, you know I'm challenged in that area anyway.  I think there are some Saltines and a jar of peanut butter in the cupboard. Knock yourself out. (Don't worry, it's Jiff, not Peter Pan.)

To date, I think I've visited about 170 blogs... way short of my goal.  Then, Monday night, I had an unexpected medical emergency and wound up seeing a specialist Tuesday.  I'm going back for some tests next week - and, no, it's nothing life threatening, but it will probably require surgery.  Just what I wanted to hear after the winter we've already had!

So, today, instead of happily blogging, I'll be pulling all the receipts together to do our taxes.  I have to check with our insurance because I am waaaay out of the network - like 7 states out of network - and otherwise get my ducks in a row in case we decide to do surgery sooner rather than later. I'm crossing my fingers and saying a prayer that when I go back next week, the situation will have improved and we might find some other treatment option.  Prayers along those lines would be much appreciated!

I'll keep you posted.  In the meantime, get out there and visit some blogs.

The Party's Still Going Strong!

Oh, my gosh. We're just half way through The Ultimate Blog Party Tour, and I'm completely overwhelmed. I got a very late start due to a nasty cold, so when I signed up over at 5 Minutes For Mom I was like Number 538.  I figured I was the last straggler bringing up the rear.  When I checked in today, I found nearly 200 more blogs joined the conga line behind me!

I am NEVER going to make it through this entire list, not in 4 more days.  I've just now visited the first 100 blogs!  I started with the best of intentions; I read everyone's sidebar content, checked the "about me" post, and commented on every blog.  Now, I'm doing good to comment on one in 10!

I'm hoping that Susan and Janice will see what a monster they've created and extend the party... say, by a month or so!  Gotta go.  Must. Visit. More. Blogs.
