One more report from KY3 reporter Paula Morehouse and Taka Yokoyama from the front lines in Afghanistan. Over the past three Red Fridays, we've been following a group of Missouri soldiers and getting a glimpse into their daily lives. On this long Memorial Day weekend, I thought you might enjoy seeing how our soldiers spend their downtime.

Red Friday - May 21

Last week, I posted a report from local NBC affiliate KY3 following Missouri soldiers on duty in Afghanistan. This time around, reporter Paula Morehouse and photojournalist Taka Yokoyama travel with a group of soldiers tasked with finding and detonating IEDs. Many thanks to the team at KY3 for financing this trip and giving all of us back home a close up look into the lives of our soldiers.

Red Friday - May 14

Local NBC affiliate KY3 sent a reporter and videographer to Afghanistan recently to do a series of reports about Missouri soldiers for the folks back home. These reports were very good so I thought I'd share a couple of them with you in these Red Friday posts. This report is about efforts of the Missouri National Guard to teach agriculture techniques to local farmers. Many thanks to Paula Morehouse and Taka Yokoyama for bringing us these stories.

Red Friday - May 7

 

Our military is called upon to tackle all sorts of dissasters; the oil spill in the gulf is just the latest crisis confronting them. Here, U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Hilton R. Lloyd, left, and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Kevin P. Dares discuss flight locations at the governor's office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness in Baton Rouge, La., May 4th, to support efforts to contain the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Lloyd is a Louisiana National Guardsman assigned to the State Aviation Command and Dares is the command's administrative officer.
