Summer has lingered here far longer than usual; the leaves just started to change this week. I have been looking for autumn color and I found it in this lovely video on YouTube. Enjoy.
Click the link above to view the You Tube video. I've received many reports that this blog is loading s-l-o-w-l-y since I began adding clips, so I'm replacing many of them (in my archived posts) with links to the originals instead.
You know how you get an idea in your head and you just have to run with it? Well, I'm bent on including scrapbook pages in this new project. I'm really excited about it... and I don't know why. I've never scrapbooked a thing in my whole life. Even my wedding pictures are still in a box - loose. We were married 18 years ago.
So, last week I was walking in the park thinking about this project. There, on the trail in front of me, was a bird feather. Not an ugly dyed chicken feather you get in bags at the craft store - this one came from a real wild bird. I was so excited. I picked it up; wrapped it in a tissue and tucked it in my hydra-pack. I found 2 more on the trail that day.
When I got back to the park, I spotted a flock of geese - local boys who hang out by the pond. I followed them and collected a dozen more feathers in different sizes and colors. Of course, when I got them home I sprayed the daylights out of them with Lysol, then stuck them in a plastic bag for safe keeping. They'll be in the book, so look for them... and now you know the story behind them.
... now I know that, don't I. I've been searching for vintage bird art for the new book. I found some gorgeous old pictures and sent a couple of them to my friend, Pat, who is an avid birder. Am I a birder? Not so much. I can identify maybe 20 birds... if they fly right into my yard and hold up a little sign identifying themselves.
So, I sent Pat the pics. She was kinda lukewarm about them. "These aren't North American birds," she said politely. That was news to me.
"Yeah," I said, "but they're pretty." Pat giggled. "Besides," I said, "Do you think anyone will know the difference?"
"Well, I knew instantly," she said. Darn. "Where's this artist from?" she said.
"He was born in Austria," I said. "So, you don't think these would pass as mountain birds?" I asked.
"From which Alp?" she said. Point taken. I'm looking for new bird pics again. North American this time.
I received this wonderful YouTube clip in an email last week from the video production company of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Someone there read my posts about our current book-in-progress, and thought this tied in nicely. I think you'll enjoy it. Thanks, ECLA for producing this wonderful video.
