An easy one this week. Call it a "comfort list" for all you TTer's who just can't stay away from blogging on the holiday! Happy Thanksgiving!
13 Thanksgiving Day Award Winners - Chosen By Me
1. Favorite Thanksgiving Smell Award. Turkey roasting in the oven.
2. Favorite TV Tradition (old) Award. Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I like it better than the Mummer's Parade. Macy's kept me glued to the TV every Thanksgiving morning when I was a child. Now I look at it and see one long boring commercial for this year's hot new toys... but I still love it.
3. Favorite T-day Dessert Award. Pumpkin pie. 'nuff said.
4. Favorite New TV Tradition Award. The National Dog Show. Comes on right after the Macy's parade. I usually have to tape this for later viewing. I am a sucker for dog shows. I watch all of them - Crufts, Eukanuba's, and my favorite, Westminster.
5. The Inedible T-day Food Award. This goes to... (drumroll)... Cranberry Sauce! Not the proper kind made with real cranberries. I'm talking that red gel in a can that my Mom used to put on a decorative glass plate every year - can ridges and all. Nobody ever touched the stuff at our huge family dinner, but there it sat, taking up valuable space on our crowded Thanksgiving table.
6. The Warm Fuzzy Award. This goes to my family. They make me smile... usually.
7. The Unsung Hero Award. This goes to our good buddy Tryptophan, that little amino acid present in turkey that makes us all sleepy. Best nap of the year!
8. The Background Noise Award goes to Football. The day is not perfect until there is a rowdy football game on TV competing with family conversation for my attention. I haven't kept track of the players' names since Terry Bradshaw was a quarterback, but I still want to hear a game.
9. The New Traditions Award. Thanksgiving Day Tourists. Yes, you heard me. Our tiny town is full of tour busses on Thanksgiving; they come from all over the country. Most are filled with recent widows, women - and a few men - who couldn't bear to sit at home and think of Thanksgivings past. When I was a retail manager, I would strike up conversations with these folks. Their eyes would fill with tears when they talked about their deceased spouse, but they always smiled. I admire their courage. I'm sure if you think about it, you know someone who qualifies for this award, too.
10. The Rest, Don't Stress Award. This one is easy. It goes to Leftovers! I don't have to cook a thing for 2 whole days... not that I cook that much anyway.
11. The Christmas Season Is Officially Here Award. Goes to the 3 area radio stations that begin playing Christmas music at 6pm Thanksgiving night! One of my favorites is a campy tune from 1953, performed by a little girl from Oklahoma City, Gayla Peevey. I Want A Hippo For Christmas It was a promotion for the Oklahoma City Zoo. Give it a listen... I dare you.
12. The Buck The Crowd Award goes to Me! I will not set my alarm Friday morning. I will be sleeping all snug in my bed while a bunch of idiots are hitting the stores at 5am. I will leisurely get up, go for a bike ride, grab lunch at McAlister's Deli... and never go near the mall.
13. The Thanksgiving Peace Award. This one goes to my hubby who makes all my Thanksgivings perfect. Thanksgiving night, I will curl up on the couch with Mitch and our pups, Buddy and Sam. A holiday special will be on TV... Leftovers will be tucked away in the fridge... Relatives safely home. This is heaven.

Happy Thanksgiving! We don't celebrate it over here, but I enjoyed your list very much!
My TT is about past life regression.

I'm with you on the NO after thanksgiving shopping. OY! I would rather scrub floors (and that's saying something!!) than do that!
Love your TT idea! Quite novel!
Have a great thanksgiving! (I seem to really dig exclamation points. Not sure why!! hehe)

Good list of awards!! I witness four near-accidents this evening while out getting dinner rolls. I am now trying to figure out how I can avoid going into any store or mall until mid-February.
It should be safe by then.
...right..?

Love this list! Except I'd give the Favorite Thanksgiving Smell award to stuffing. ;)
Happy Thanksgiving and TT!

I'd always assumed I hated cranberry sauce until a friend made some of the real stuff last year at my house. The secret, I've learned, is vanilla and cinnamon. It helps with the bitter aftertaste. :) The canned jelly stuff is really inedible.
Great list!

My sister played the hippo song for me last week! Oh the trauma!
happy TT! and happy gluttony day!
My list is up :)

My plus-one loves that canned crangoo! He'll eat about two can's worth tomorrow! Ugh!

Thanks for visiting.

Love # 3, and #5 made me laugh. I am expecting to see that today, on someone's shirt. :)
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

I remember the can-o-sauce. Good times! I am totally with you. I avoid shopping on Friday like the plague!

Great list. :) Definitely the most creative Thanksgiving post I've seen all day. Terrific list of awards. :)
Although I celebrated Thanksgiving last month (Canadian Thanksgiving is in October) I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving. :)

I won't be hitting the early bird shopping specials, either. I think it's a bad marketing ploy. Though hubby said he'll get up early tomorrow to see if he can snag a 32" LCD TV at Home Depot for a great price. More power to him if he's willing to get up that early.
I don't have the canned cranberry sauce, either. I think it's become like the fruitcake. People buy it and they don't know why.

Great list. It's a bit like my Christmas one. Being in the UK we don't have a holiday between summer and Christmas.

LOL-- ah yes, the ridges in the cranberry... gelatin (how do they call that sauce?!?)
The local "oldies" station began the Christmas music on Monday... it greeted us first thing Monday morning.
Happy Thanksgiving and T13!

Last year our local telephone company used "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" in their Christmas ads. It caused a huge rush on stuffed Hippo's for kids - Ikea could hardly keep them in stock!

Good list, Mrs Duck must have the cranberry sauce thats the jelly. But overall, what a great way to put together a Turkey Day list.

Great list! I am with you on the left overs and not getting up on Black Friday. No sales are worth me losing sleep. I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving, too!

So, you really like my character and the novel (WIP)? Thanks :-) Well, now that you've mentioned it and think my WIP might be a winner, why not a series then? Hope you'll keep following my progress (I'd be so happy). We can email and talk about our writing, too if you like. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
